Musical Genres:
Music is a diverse language that comprises different genres. A genre is a style or category of art, music or literature. In the proceeding article, I will be mentioning some of the main genres of music. I hope it will be helpful to a lot of people out there who are not  familiar with a lot of genres but hold a significance interest in knowing. So, Let’s get started!

1-Jazz:  Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, United States, in the late 19th. Jazz is seen by many as 'America's classical music. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, jazz has become recognised as a major form of musical expression. It then emerged in the form of independent traditional and popular musical styles.
It comprises many sub genres like Smooth jazz, Ragtime, Contemporary jazz, Fusion, Crossover jazz , Latin jazz, Bossa nova, Swing. Though It is highly difficult to
define jazz,  since it contains variety of sub genres , improvisation is consistently regarded as being one of its key elements. Women have contributed throughout jazz history.  Women began playing instruments in jazz in the early 1920s, with the piano being one of the earliest instruments used which allowed female artists a degree of social acceptance. Some well-known artists of the time were Sweet Emma Barrett, Mary Lou Williams, Lovie Austin and Nina simone.

 2-Blues:

Blues is a music genre and musical form originated by African Americans in the Deep South of the United States around the end of the 19th century. Blues incorporate spirituals, work songs, field hollers, shouts, chants, and rhymed simple narrative ballads. Blues as a genre is also characterised by its lyrics, bass lines, and instrumentation. Typical instruments in blues include ; Guitar, Piano, Harmonica , Bass , Drums , Blues harp , Slide guitar , Xylophone.
Blues also consist of many sub genres like; Boogie-woogie , Classic female blues , Country blues . Electric blues , Jump blues , Piano blues .

The blues form is a cyclic musical form in which a repeating progression of chords mirrors the call and response scheme commonly found in African and African-American music. During the first decades of the 20th century blues music was not clearly defined in terms of a particular chord progression. With the popularity of early performers, such as Bessie Smith, use of the twelve-bar blues spread across the music industry during the 1920s and 30s. Other chord progressions included 8-bar blues and 16- bar blues.

There are so many top hit blues songs but mine favourite includes ;
B.B.king-The thrill is gone, Gravity by John mayer, and I can’t quit you baby by Led zeppelin.

Here i'd also like to mention about a live concert, held in Chicago back then in 2006 where  B.B King and John Mayer take on their guitars and mesmerised the audience with their solos. What a historical moment!

3-Country Music :
Country (or western)  is a musical genre that originated in the southern United States in the early 1920s. It takes its roots from genres such as folk music and blues. Country music often consists of ballads and dance tunes with generally simple forms, folk lyric and harmonies accompanied by mostly string instruments such as banjos, electric and acoustic guitars, steel guitars and fiddles as well as harmonicas.
Avicii’s  song- “ Wake me up” is my all time favourite!

 4-Rock music:
It is a broad genre of popular music that originated as "rock and roll" in the United States in the early 1950s, and developed into a range of different styles in the 1960s and later, particularly in the United Kingdom and in the United States.

It has its roots in rock and roll, a style which drew heavily on the African-American genres of blues and rhythm and blues, and from country music. Rock music also drew strongly on a number of other genres such as electric blues and folk, and incorporated influences from jazz, classical and other musical styles. Typical instruments include; Electric guitars, Bass guitar , Drums , Vocals , Keyboards.
Sub genres include; Alternative rock , Art rock , Hard rock , Psychedelic rock.

5-Metal:
Metal is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom. With roots in blues rock and psychedelic/acid rock, the bands that created heavy metal developed a thick, massive sound, characterised by highly amplified distortion, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and overall loudness. Heavy metal lyrics and performance styles are sometimes associated with aggression. In 1968, three of the genre's most famous acts, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple were founded.
